African Americans: How bad was the crack epidemic, really, when crack cocaine hit the ghettos?
I know heroin hit pretty hard in the 70’s, particularly in Harlem and Queens, but I hear allot of rappers (Some former drug dealers) talk about how awful the drug was, how it ripped the community apart.
As a white boy who doesn’t make frequent trips to "Da Hood", I just have a curious nature, and this is the reason this section was created, not to get on and ask stupid rude questions about another race.
Have any of the African Americana’s in hear ever known a crack head? Did the drug really rip their lives apart?
Cause if so, it’s going to be one of the drugs I make sure I never try in my life….(Unfortunately, I’ve already done heroin) :’(

It was very bad. In fact most of the problems in the black community today are from the the introduction of crack into the black community in the 80’s. Why are there so many unwed black women? Because many of our men either died or are in prison for selling crack. Now I have no sympathy for them. No one forced them to sell that poison to their own people so they should suffer the consequences. However look at the results. Kids growing up in single parent homes, joining gangs to feel loved or belonging in society. No sense of community. Poor people stealing from poor people. Racist cops targeting blacks. The list goes on.
I’ve had a few associates who were crackheads and yes their life was messed up. So no, you shouldn’t do it. You shouldn’t be taking any illegal drugs in the first place.

i wasn’t born in that time but i i have known a few crack heads. And as hilarious as they are, the truth shines through. yes their lives have been quite fuxed by crack. They’re physically fuxed because they’re mentally fuxed. they rely on the drug to operate. Crack is for crack heads like air is for humans and they will do ANYTHING for crack. like steal, murder, scam, etc. and all these things have warped the already fuxed african american ghettos into hell on Earth. its a shame to see a young black scholar who is trying to make it out the hood get shot by a crack head who just wants some money for a quick fix on the news.

Many of the black people on this site have never lived in "Da Hood" and were not around during the crack epidemic. So why don’t you rephrase your question and direct it towards people who lived in the ghetto during the crack epidemic and put that in the main question that way you’ll only get the answers your looking for
